 About Silver Strings Music Studio

Silver Strings Music Studio

The Silver Strings Music Studio was named out of one of Ryan's main musical inspirations, Grandpa (Howard) Turnbull.  Howard first learned how to play as a teen, but the violin away for 40+ years, and then started playing violin again around age 60.  After he returned to violin, he and several friends created a bluegrass band "The Silver Strings" who frequented bluegrass festivals and nursing homes in upstate New York.  Grandpa's passion for music as a hobby was an inspiration to Ryan, who always enjoys the opportunity to play with his grandfather! When the Williams family moved to Trumbauersville, PA, it was thier goal to create a space to formally create a music studio for Ryan's students. In honor of Grandpa Turnbull, the studio was named after his band.

Ryan Williams, owner

Mr. Ryan Williams started playing violin in 3rd grade inspired to start playing by his relationship with his Grandfather, Howard Turnbull.  Through the careful instruction of David Leithmann, Ryan developed his playing and his passion for teaching.  Under Mr. Leithmann's instruction, Ryan started viola in 10th grade and quickly fell in love with the instrument.

Ryan received his BS in Music Ed from Penn State University and MA in Ed from Arcadia University. He is the elementary orchestra and string teacher in East Penn School District, working with 4th & 5th grade students from the 7 elementary schools in the district. Previously he has taught in Souderton, PA and taught privately in Ephrata, PA and State College, PA.

Outside of his main job, Mr. Williams maintains a the Silver Strings Music Studio and is the founder and violist for the Silver Strings Ensemble. Mr. Williams directs the Got Strings? Extreme Youth Orchestra, based out of Souderton, PA. On Sundays he is the violinist for the East Swamp Church praise team. Mr. Williams also serves on the Pennsylvania Delaware String Teachers Association state board as chapter webmaster.

At home Mr. Williams enjoys spending time outside; biking, camping, hiking, and kayaking. He also is the fire police officer for Quakertown Fire Department and Trumbauersville Fire Company. Mr. Williams resides in Trumbauersville with his wife and their 3 children.

The Silver Strings Ensemble

The Silver Strings Ensemble was originally created as the Iris String Quartet at Penn State University in 2000, by Ryan Williams and Stephanie Campitelli.  After several semesters, the players all went their own ways.  Upon starting to teach in Souderton, PA, Ryan wanted to start a quartet again, and contacted Stephanie, who was living in the area.  They contacted Carolyn Werner, a fellow PSU Alumni and the Iris String Quartet was reformed in 2003.  Upon the creation of the Silver Strings Music Studio, the Iris String Quartet was renamed to align with the studio.
